Abstract

ABSTRACT

Descriptive writing skill is a skill in exploring the idea or thought in the form of written language based on the things or pictures as the objects. If there is a constraint in writing the descriptive text, it can influence the deaf children’s study result.

Deaf children are children who get problem in their listening and speaking kill. This condition influences their language skill especially in their descriptive writing skill. Therefore, a certain method is needed to improve their descriptive writing skill. That is by using Somatic, Auditory, Visually, Intelectually ((SAVI) Approach.

This research aims to analyze the deaf children’s descriptive writing skill before and after being given the action by using SAVI approach. The students are fifth grade of Bina Bangsa primary school for special needs children B Sidoarjo. This research is conducted to 6 deaf children of Bina Bangsa primary school for special needs children B Sidoarjo. They are mild deaf children. The desaign of the research is pre experimental research by using “one group pre test post test design”. The data analysis used in this research is non parametric data analysis by using sign test.

The result shows that the score of Zh is 2,05. It is higher than 1,96. Therefore, it is decided to reject the Ho accept the Ha. Based on this result, it is concluded that “ There is an effect of Somatic, Auditory, Visually, Intelectually (SAVI) Approach for the descriptive writing skill of deaf children at Bina Bangsa primary school for special needs children B Sidoarjo”.
