Abstract

ABSTRACT
In this research knowledge, understanding, and evaluation about autism was important to teacher and school administrator for giving intervention. The wrong perception about autism student would have the impact to unappropriate intervention with autism’s characteristic. Inclusive school expected to give an appropriate education service based on their special need, so the teacher and school administrator must have the correct perception.
The purpose of this research was to descript the perception of teacher and school administrator toward autism student in inclusive elementary school Klampis Ngasem I Surabaya. This research used descriptive method with qualitative approach.
Bassed on research data analysis it was obtained the research result that majority the theacher (83%) had more knowledge about autism disorder, potential, and intervention to autism, meanwhile school administrator had less knowledge, only 33% knew the autism disorder. Teacher’s interpretation about autism student was correct, majority teacher (60%) interpreted autism student as unique personal who had disorder and potential which could be optimized by the special intervention, and majority (67%) school administrator interpreted autism student had behavior and communication disorder. Teacher’s evaluation about auism intervention was appropriate, 42% avaluated the intervention must be appropriate with autism’s characteristic, 25% teacher and 100% school administrator evaluated that the appropriate intervention was given by individually. Meanwhile, 75% teacher evaluated that special program was necessary to optimized autism’s potential.
