Abstract
From the observation result in SLB Arya Satya Hati Pasuruan mentally retardation students of class 1 had very low writing skill. Mentally retardation students had difficulty in beginning writing especially writing alphabet, word, and simple sentence. The problem of beginning writing skill for mentally retardation students was required easy understanding method i.e picture story invention method. The purpose of this research was to know the influence of picture story invention method toward beginning writing skill of mentally retardation students.
The sample of this research was mentally retardation students of class 1 in SLB Arya Satya Hati Pasuruan numbered 6 students. This research used pre experiment kind with pretest posttest design. The data collection method was test i.e pretest and posttest which was done before and after giving treatment. The treatment was done 8 times meeting.
The pretest result of 35 students’ average value was then given treatmen 8 times. The students were then given posttest with average value 60. The average value of pretest and posttest indicated that there was better change, the beginning writing skill of mentally retardation students enhanced. That result was analyzed using sign test formula Zh with Ztable 5% two sides testing 1,96. Zh value obtained in counting was Zh = 2,26 > Ztable 5% 1,96. It was proven that picture story invention method had influence toward beginning writing skill of mentally retardation students of class 1 in SLB Arya Satya Hati Pasuruan.
