Abstract

ABSTRACT
Constain in the hearing cause deaf children’s skill in comprehending the learning materials given by
the teacher is still low, especially in the science lesson. It is because there are many abstract materials. The
puzzle is considered as the media which can affects the deaf children’s deaf science study result at Kemala
Bhayangkari 2 School for special needs children AB Gresik. This research aims to analyze the result of deaf
children’s science study skill before and after applying the puzzle.
This research is pre experiment research by using “one group pre-test post-test” design. This research
uses pre experiment because this research is only conducted to one comparative group or controlled group. The
sample is not chosen randomly.
Based on the data analysis which based on the collected data in the pre-test and post-test, it can be
concluded that the student’s average score in pre-test is 64.03. After applying puzzle in the treatment for 6
meetings (each meeting is 2x35 minutes), the children’s average score in post-test is 78.39. It shows that the
children’s post-test score is better than their pre-test score. The next step is conducting sign test. The Zh is 2.04.
It is bigger than the critical score of α = 5% and its error level for 1.64. Therefore the alternate hypothesis (Ha is
accepted and Ho is rejected). It can be concluded that there is significant effect between puzzle and deaf
children’s science study result at Kemala Bhayangkari 2 School for special needs children AB Gresik.
