The ability to read is the basis for control of various fields of study. But the ability to read the mild mentally retarded children tend to be low because their intelligence is below average. This happens because the central processing less vocabulary working properly, so that mentally disabled children have difficulty in reading the beginning. To overcome these problems, the mentally disabled children in need of media that can display real words, easily seen and heard repeatedly. One appropriate media of the form is moving images accompanied by sound and writing. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of interactive video learning media to increase students' reading skills onset of mild mental disabilities in special schools Gedangan Harmony Sidoarjo.

This study used a quasi-experimental research design or quasi-experimental design with one group pretest - posttest design. Analysis of the data in this study using a quantitative approach because the data collected in the form of numbers or numbers that are statistically analyzed by non-parametric statistics. The statistical formula used to analyze the results of this study is to use the test formula sign (sign test). Data were analyzed results obtained value of (Zh) of 2.05 and the value of Z = 1.96 derived table numbers Z = 0.5. Thus ZH> 2.05, meaning the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. So there is a significant effect of the use of interactive video learning media to increase students' reading skills onset of mild mental disabilities in special schools Gedangan Harmony Sidoarjo.

The results showed that the application of the use of interactive video pembeljaran media to increase students' reading skills onset of mild mental disabilities in special schools Gedangan Harmony Sidoarjo. Based on the results of this study recommended is the interactive video media can be applied as an effort to improve reading skills of students beginning a mental disability.
