Blindness to someone caused limitedness in exercising and moving to some places. Therefore, in education for the blind, orientation and mobility became inseparable part. In the orientation and mobility there were several techniques i.e. upper hand, lower hand, and trailing techniques. The techniques of upper hand, lower hand, and trailing were self protection techniques given to the blind children so that they could walk efficiently, autonomously, and safely.
This research had purpose to analyze the influence of upper hand, lower hand, and trailing techniques toward mobility ability to the blind children. The time used in this research was 8 times meeting with 6 times treatment, 1 time pre test and 1 time post test. The approach used in this research was quantitative of pre experiment kind with “the one group pre-test post-test design” i.e. an experiment involving one group but measuring was done twice, early and last treatments with 6 children as the subject. The research method used was test. The test used was to get quantitative data about mobility ability to the blind children using upper hand, lower hand, and trailing techniques. From the research result it was obtained average value of pre test was 42,8 and post test was 72,8. The data obtained was then analyzed by wilcoxon match pair test formula. It could be concluded that “there was significant influence of upper hand, lower hand, and trailing techniques toward mobility ability to the blind children” (Zh = 2,373 > Zt = 1,96, α = 5% so that Ho was refused and Ha was accepted).
