Abstract

ABSTRACT
Hearing impairment students had disturbance in language development one of them was writing. Writing skill of hearing impairment students was influenced by the skills of scrutinizing, speaking, and reading. If the skills were not mastered by the hearing impairment students yet it automatically had impact to the disturbance of writing skill. Writing became important in education because writing could clarify thinking, broaden perception, arrange the experience sequence, and become one of communication media. In this way, writing skill was important to be developed to the hearing impairment students so that they could master writing skill and could actualize the mind content in the form of writing.
The writing characteristics of hearing impairment students in the age of 7-15 years mostly used noun compared to other kind words. The use of verb was in the second way and then article and the last pronoun. It indicated that the writing ability of hearing impairment students was still low. In this way, learning writing of hearing impairment students ought to be trained intensively. In developing writing description skill of hearing impairment students could be trained and developed by learning method appropriated with their characteristics which tended to optimize their visual sense in obtaining information. In this way, all information was changed into visual form so that they were easy to understand. Learning picture and picture method used pictures to explain some materials, the pictures were organized or matched to be logic sequence and then they were described in the form of writing. Therefore, this research applied learning picture and picture method with the purpose to know the influence of learning picture and picture method toward writing description skill of the second class of hearing impairment students in SDLB-B Karya Mulia II Surabaya.
This research used quantitative approach and pre experiment kind by using “One Group Pretest – posttest design”. The data collection method used test and the technique of data analysis used statistic non parametric with sign test. Based on the data analysis, it indicated that ZH = 2,05 > Z table = 1,96 to 5% significant level (two sides test). So it could be concluded that there was significant influence of learning picture and picture method toward writing description ability to the second class of hearing impairment students in SDLB-B Karya Mulia II Surabaya.
