Abstract

Beginning reading skills are the most important things that must be owned by the students, especially the ability to read should be mastered by students at levels elementary school, because this ability is directly related to the whole process of learning. The purpose of this study was to describe the beginning of improved reading skills using games media Maze mild mentally retarded in children in the class II SLB/C landfill Jember. This research is a class action, because the research done to solve the problem of learning in the classroom. The research procedures performed by cycles where each cycle performed during 2 meetings of planning, implementation, observation, reflection and revision. This study also includes descriptive research, a technique for describing how learning is applied and how the desired results can be achieved. Based on the analysis on the second cycle 1 meeting. The results mean the first meeting of the second cycle by 62%. This child average value meets the Minimum Acomplishment Criteria. However, on an individual basis from the results of tests on the second cycle 1 meeting still have 1child had scored less than 60. Thus, in the classical limit value is not reached mastery learning that action research continued on the second cyclemeeting 2. In this cycle average value by 70%. Individually, all the children had achieved greater 60. Thus, in the classical mastery has reached a predetermined limit which is 60%.
