Abstract

ABSTRACTWriting was one of our language skill aspects. Writing meant expressing thought and or feeling through a symbol (writing). Writing skill was also required by mentally retardation children. Writing skill was taught with the purpose i.e to make the third class student of SDLB Bandaran III get their ability in expressing idea, thinking, experience, and opinion exactly to develop the writing skill especially for mild mentally retardation children by applying a series picture media. By a series picture, it could stimulate children’s thinking, helping the children expressing their idea. The design used was class treatment with Kemmis & Taggart’s cycle model. This treatment class step was done in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of 4 steps those were planning treatment , applying treatment, observation, and reflection. This research was done in SDLB Bandaran III with the subject of the third class student of mild mentally retardation, 4 student. The data collection method in this research was done by using observation sheet, documentation, test, field note, and interview. Based on the research result it indicated that the activity of the third class student of mentally retardation in SDLB Bandaran III Winongan district in Pasuruan regency after being applied a series picture media in learning writing simple sentence was increasing. In cycle I classically the student’s activity in cycle I obtained 60,41% and in cycle II 81,20%. The students’ learning result in cycle I was 62,5% while in cycle II 87,5%. It indicated that there was students’ activity and learning result enhancement.Based on the finding, the researcher concluded that there was learning enhancement by using a series picture media and suggested to consider the application of a series picture media in learning writing simple sentence as one of the alternatives in choosing and using appropriate learning model and also enhanced the students’ activity and learning result.
