Abstract

Abstract: Self esteem is one of life needs to measure how far someone trust herself as
the individual who is able to do something and valuable. Based on the primary
observation, the deaf children’s self esteem is still low. If the children do not understand
their self esteem, it will cause their emotional and social development when they are in
their environment especially at school. Based on the background, the purpose of this
research is using Value Clarification Technique to solve the problem. It is used the
observe the self esteem of deaf children by using innovation which can train them to find,
choose, analyze, decide, and do something based on their life value which wants to be
developed, especially their self esteem. The samples of this research are 6 deaf students
at third grade of SLB Siti Hajar Sidoarjo. This research is pre experiment research by
using pretest and posttest group design. There are 6 deaf children who are given pretest
and posttest. Post test is given after the children are given the action in the form of value
clarification technique in eight meeting. The non parametric statistics is used to analyzed
the data. Based the research, Zh from pretest and posttest is 2,05. It is compared to sign
test with the critical score α = 5% two sides testing 1,96. Therefore, it can be concluded
that there is an effect of value clarification technique for the self esteem in the citizenship
lesson for the third grade deaf students in SLB Siti Hajar Sidoarjo.
