STRATEGI PEMBELAJARAN PQ4R TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN MEMBACA PEMAHAMAN SISWA TUNARUNGU DI SMALB-B

Abstract

Abstract; Deafness affects the language skill development. Therefore, deaf children get difficulties to comprehend what they read. Reading for comprehension is a good media to develop someone’s language skill to get the knowledge. The research shows that 18-19 years old deaf students’ reading skill is not better than 8-9 years old have. Some linguists argue that the problem in the speaking and listening body part can make the language skill developed slowly. It means they have difficulties in their reading comprehension. The result of the observation on tenth grade in SMALB-B Karya Mulia Surabaya shows that the deaf students’ reading comprehension in this class is still low. Most of the students are difficult to answer and retell the story. Based on this background, this research aims to find out the effect of PQ4R learning strategy for the deaf students’ reading comprehension in SMALB-B Karya Mulia Surabaya.
This research is a pre experiment quantitative research by using one group pre test post test design. There are test and documentation as the data collecting methods. The test is used to get the data of the deaf students’ reading comprehension before and after they are given the action. The documentation is used to collect the students’ identity. The action is given in 8 meetings. Each meeting consists of 3x40 minutes. The learning material given is animals pictorial story. It consists of animals in the jungle, such as deer, squirrel, fox, hedgehog, pig, skunk, bear, and wolf. The data analysis techniques used are non parametric statistic and sign test. The data analysis result shows that Zh is 2.05. It is bigger than the critical score of 5%, 1.96. Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is that there is a significant effect of PQ4R learning strategy for the deaf students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade in SMALB-B Karya Mulia Surabaya”.
