Abstract

Abstract: Autistic children get difficulties in their hard motor development. Based on the observation conducted on May 24 2013, the autistic children at Harapan Bunda Inclusive School Surabaya get difficulties in their body parts coordination in walking (straight body when they are walking) and children’s balance when they are walking (the children can maintain their body position when they are walking) in the uphill road. One of the factors cause the autistic children be difficult to walk in the uphill roads is because they are difficult in balancing their body. Their disability is caused by their dysfunction of sensory integration to process the accepted information through their sense.

This research aims to analyze the effect of sensory integration method through modified board for autistic children’s hard motor skill at Harapan Bunda Inclisive School Surabaya. This research is subject single research design. The subject of the research is one autistic child at Harapan Bunda Inclusive School Surabaya. The data collecting techniques are observation and documentation.

The results shows that in the baseline phase, the autistic children’s duration is 13-15 minute to walk in the uphill road. After they are given action by sensori integration method through modified board which involve senses (sigh, touch, vestibular, proprioceptive), their duration becomes 25-30 minute. Based on the visual analysis in their condition, it shows better improvement in each condition. The visual analysis in their condition shows that there is a relation between conditions. It can be concluded that sensory integration method through modified board can give positive effect for the autistic children’s hard motor skill.
