The self development skill of children with mild mental retardation is different from the normal children’s. On the other hand, we can train their self development skill to grow their independence in filling their daily needs. Based on the result of observation at fifth grade of Pertiwi School for Special Needs Children C Mojokerto, the children’s skill in brushing their teeth needs to be improved. Therefore, the appropriate method which meets the children’s characteristics and children’s needs is needed to develop their self development skill. One of them is drilling method through video.

This research aims to analyze the effect of drilling metodh through video for the self development skill of children with mild mental retardation before and after they are given treatment. This research is a quantitative research, pre experiment research by using one group pre test – post test design. The subjects of the research are 6 children with mild mental retardation at fifth grade of Pertiwi School for Special Needs Children C Mojokerto. The data collecting method is test. Non parametric statistics, sign test, is used to analyze the data.

Based on the research result and sign test in the critical score of α = 5%, Zh in the pre test and post test is 2.05. It is bigger than the critical score of Z by using one side test 1.64. Therefore, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. The conclusion of this research is that there is a significant effect of drilling method through video for the self development skill of children with mild mental retardation at fifth grade of Pertiwi Scholl for Special Needs Children C Mojokerto.
