Vocabulary has an important role in the language as the process of thought or the media to communicate in the society which must be mastered by the mild mental retarded children. Based on the first observation, the second grade children get difficulties in their vocabularies, especially to recognize the vocabularies of plants and animals. Therefore, the appropriate way which meets their characteristics and needs is needed in the learnings process to develop their vocabularies. One of them is through the use of environment near school. This research aims to find out the effect of environmental learning source for the mild mental retarded children’s vocabulary before and after they are given the treatment.

This research is quantitative research. It is pre-experiment research by using pretest-posttest design. The subjects of the research are 6 children. The data collecting technique is test. Sign test non parametric statistic is used to analyze the data. Based on the research result, the data is analyzed by using sign test, non parametric techniques and critical score α = 5%. Therefore the Zh is achieved from the pre test an post test, 2.05, it is bigger than Z critical score by using one side test 1.64 and two sides test 1.96.Therefore, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.

The conclusion of this research is that there is a significant effect of environmental learnings source for the mild mental retarded children’s vocabulary at second grade of C Pertiwi Scholl for children with special needs in Mojokerto.
