THE EFFECT OF THE POMODORO TECHNIQUE ON ATTENTION SPAN OF AUTISTIC STUDENT IN LEARNING SETTING
PENGARUH TEKNIK POMODORO TERHADAP RENTANG PERHATIAN SISWA AUTIS DALAM PEMBELAJARAN
Abstract
Rentang perhatian berperan penting dalam pengambilan keputusan, pemecahan masalah, dan interaksi sosial. Permasalahan fungsi eksekutif menyebabkan rentang perhatian siswa autis cenderung pendek. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh teknik pomodoro sebagai intervensi manajemen waktu terhadap rentang perhatian siswa autis dalam pembelajaran. Menggunakan metode single subject research dengan desain A-B-A, subjek penelitian adalah seorang siswa autis kelas dua SD berusia sepuluh tahun di sekolah inklusif Surabaya. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi berupa durasi perhatian masing-masing pertemuan yang kemudian dicatat pada perangkat penelitian. Data hasil observasi dianalisis secara visual melalui grafik antar kondisi dan dalam kondisi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pengaruh positif intervensi yang ditandakan dengan peningkatan mean level serta tren positif selama fase intervensi serta perubahan level yang signifikan dari fase baseline-1 (m=771 detik) ke fase intervensi (m=1166,16 detik). Kesimpulan menunjukkan bahwa teknik pomodoro berdampak positif terhadap rentang perhatian siswa autis namun pengaruhnya tidak bertahan setelah intervensi dihentikan. Implikasi hasil penelitian ini yakni pentingnya strategi berkelanjutan dalam penggunaan teknik berbasis struktur waktu yang terintegrasi dengan pembelajaran bagi siswa autis, menurunkan beban kognitif, serta meningkatkan fokus bagi siswa autis. Guru dan terapis dapat menggunakannya dalam pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan efektivitas kegiatan pembelajaran.

Attention span plays a crucial role in decision-making, problem-solving, as well as social interaction. Executive function challenges often lead to limited attention spans in autistic students. This study aimed to examine the effect of the pomodoro technique as a time management intervention on the attention span of autistic student during learning. Employing a single-subject research method with A-B-A design, the participant was a ten-year-old second-grade student at an inclusive elementary school in Surabaya. Data were collected through observation, specifically measuring the subject’s attention duration per session, which was then recorded in the research instrument. The observation data were visually analyzed using graphs comparing both within-condition and between-conditions. Results indicated a positive intervention effect, marked by an increase in mean level and a positive trend during the intervention phase, with a significant level change from baseline-1 (m=771 seconds) to intervention (m=1166.16 seconds). Findings indicate that the pomodoro technique positively impacts the attention span of student with autism; however, the effects were not sustained post-intervention. The study implies the need for sustained strategies in applying learning integrated structured time-based techniques for autistic learners. Teacher and therapist can utilize it during learning session to increase learning effectivity.
