The mild mentally retardation who had low intelligence level so that the children's cognitive ability got hindrance. Characteristic recognizing subjects need an concrete comprehension. Teaching method of recognizing things characteristic ability in SLB-AC Dharma Wanita Sidoarjo could not give influence yet to the children's learning result. so that by project method modification it would give the real experience to the children. The purpose of this research was to know the influence of using project method modification toward recognizing things characteristic ability to class VII of mild mentally retardation children in SLB-AC Dharma Wanita Sidoarjo.
This research used quantitative with "pre experiment" kind and "One Grow, pre lest 'MAW test design". The sample was 6 children of class VII of SLB-AC Dharma Wanita Sidoarjo. This research used Test Method for collecting data. And Wilcoxon Match Pairs Test on non parametrix statistical for data analysis.
The research result obtained by cntic value counting 5% for two sides was 1.96. Z value obtained in counting (Z-2,201) was greater than Z critic value 5% two sides (1.96) so that null hypothesis (Ho) was refused and work hypothesis (Hal was accepted. Based on the research result it could be concluded that there was influence of using project method modification toward recognizing things characteristic ability to class VII of mild mentally retardation children in SLB-AC Dhanna Wanita Sidoarjo
