Abstract

Abstract
This research had purpose to describe the form of visual support and the function which was yielded
by the application to student with autism in SLB Autisme River Kids Malang.
This research was qualitative. The subject of this research was headmaster and teachers who involved
to student with autism in SLB Autisme River Kids Malang. The object of research was the application of
visual support in the school. The data collection techniques were observation, interview, taking pictures and
documentation. The data which had been collected was then interpreted and the result was in the form of the
application description of visual support in SLB Autisme River Kids Malang dealt with the forms of visual
support used, the application function and technique, including the problem and solution.
The result of this research indicated that: (1) the forms of visual support which had applied were
visual activity schedule, visual to structure the environment, visual script, visual rule reminder, and visual
task analysis which had been applied consistently along the students were in the school, (2) the application
technique of visual support was given since the pupils entered from the school area till going home, it was
not only learning media in the class but also visual support which was given to all activities of students in
the school, (3) the function which was yielded by the application of visual support was to make the students
with autism more predictable and controllable so that the learning was focused more and more and the
learning result also enhanced.
This research indicated that there were several problems happening during applying visual support.
One of them was the fund for getting software used by the teacher as media in making visual support design,
the minimum place for saving visual support, the limitedness of time and teacher because a number of
students was more than the teachers, too often making visual support because the main material used was
easy to break.
The solutions which had been done to remove the problem were using software of trial version,
providing special organizer box as the place to store the visual support, and maximizing cooperation among
teachers to control students with autism and cooperation to maintain and keep visual support each other.
