Abstract

ABSTRACT


Blind child is child with special need who is lack of English information and communication because of their visual problem. Therefore, they only get limited information or communication. Total Physical Response method is used to support blind children in their English learning. Through Total Physical Response, the blind children are expected to be able to develop their English.
This research aims to improve blind children's English skill at seventh grade at SMPLB-A YPAB Gebang Surabaya. This research uses pre experimental research by using one group pre test- post test design. The subjects of the resreah are 6 blind children. Two of them are totally blind and four of them are low vision. The data is analyzed by using non parametric statistic by using sign test. The result of the research shows that there is an effect of Total Physical Response method for the blind children's English skill at seventh grade of SMPLB-A YPAB Gebang Surabaya. It is proven by the result of their pre test related to their English skill is only between 33 and 66. After they are given action, their post test score is between 66.5 and93.
Based on the analysis, it shows friat ZH= 2,05. This result is compared to critical score of 5%, ZH= +1.96. The result shows that ZH > 1,96. It means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of Total Physical Response for the blind children's English at SMPLB-AB Gebang Surabaya.
