Abstract
Mid mentally retardation had problem in mastering language so that the speech ability was disturbed. Therefore, they
required fun method, easy to understand, and attractive which could be used to enhance the speech ability of mid mentally retardation
children, one of the methods which could be used was folklore method.
From the observation result in SLB Kemala Bhayangkari 2 Gresik, the student of class IV had very low speech ability. There
for, it required folklore method. The purpose of this researh were to analyze the application of folklore method toward speech
abilityof mid mentally retardation children and also to know how significant the influence of folklore method toward speech ability of
mid mentally retardation children.
This research used pre-experiment kind with pretest-posttest design. The data collection method was test (pre test and post
test). The sample numbered 6 people given pre test and post test. The post test was given after treatmen in the form of folklore method
which was done for 8 times meeting. The data analysis technique used sign test.
The data analysis result obtained was Zh was 2,05. Critic test @= 5% was 1,96 it mean Zh was greater than critic value, Ho
was refused so the conclusion was that there was significant influence of folklore method toward the enhancement of speech ability of
mid mentally retardation children.
