Abstract
Language skills is a major prerequisite for students with hearing impairment to communicate with others. The bility to read , especially reading comprehension is needed to help students with hearing impairment in understanding the content of the reading text in order to facilitate students with hearing impairment understand various subjects .
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the KWL strategy reading comprehension ability of students with hearing impairment in class V SDLB Karya Mulia Surabaya . The approach used daam this study is quantitative . This type of research is the pre- experiment . The study design using the pattern : the one group pre test post test . The method used is the test method , to collect data reading comprehension ability of students with hearing impairment before and after the intervention given intervention . Implementation of the intervention in this study conducted a total of 14 times with the allocation of 35 minutes each meeting . One meeting for a pre-test at the beginning and at the end of the first meeting for the post-test . Analysis of research data using statistical analysis techniques of non parametik type sign test "Uji Tanda". The results showed the Z count value of 2.47 is greater than the critical value of α = 0.5 Z rejection limit value is 1.96 < Z < - 1.96 so the testing that has been made known that the null hypothesis is rejected and accepted working hypothesis because the value of Z calculated value of 2.47 over 1.96 .
The results showed a significant effect on reading comprehension ability of students with hearing impairment in class V SDLB Karya Mulia Surabaya between before and after the intervention through the KWL strategy .
