Abstract

The contract extension carried out by PT Lapindo Brantas for oil and gas drilling in the Brantas area until 2040 has raised concerns for several communities, especially residents of Kalidawir RW 02, where in their area there is a former oil and gas drilling operation that has been operating since 2005 and has stopped. in 2006 due to the Lapindo incident in the Porong Sidoarjo area. Until now, the community is still shrouded in shadows and worries if the drilling area is operational again so that the community will fight to protect themselves and their living areas. This research aims to find out what causes RW 02 residents to take acts of resistance, what are the motives that underlie the residents, what are the forms of resistance that have been carried out to resolve conflicts between residents of RW 02 and PT Lapindo as the company that handles oil and gas drilling projects. This study used a qualitative method with Alfred Schutz's phenomenology approach to determine the motives of the community to do resistance. And using James C Scott's theory of resistance as an analysis tool to find out the forms of resistance that were carried out by the villagers of Kalidawir. The results of the study show that the public's view of oil and gas drilling is an exploration activity carried out by companies to seek natural resources in this phenomenon, especially oil and gas sources for the benefit of the State. There are 7 reasons why the people of Kalidawir village resisted. Forms of resistance carried out by the community are closed resistance and open resistance.
