Abstract
Pencak silat is one of a tough sport that requires players to have strong physical
strength. This research is motivated by the interest of women in Madiun district to get
involve the sport of pencak silat. Madiun district currently well known as “Kampung
Pesilat” because there are various pencak silat institution that exist and develop in this
region. This research focus on women‟s motive in getting involve the sport of pencak silat
in Persaudaraan Setia Hati institution. This study uses qualitative research methods. In this
study itself uses the phenomenology theory analysis of Alfred Schutz regarding because to
motive and in order to motive. The data in this study were obtained in several ways,

namely through observation, interviews, and documentation. Result of the research that has
been done concludes that there are two motives, the because to motive and the in order to
motive for women choosing to get involve the sport of pencak silat. Because to motive
women get involve the sport of pencak silat because of the influence of other people,
curiosity, the desire to learn pencak silat in order to protect themselves, and the desire to
become an athlete in the sport of pencak silat. Whereas in order to motive women get
involve the sport of pencak silat in the future is to increase fraternity, to look for the next
generation, and to increase achievement.
