Pembebasan Seksualitas dan Gender dalam Film The Danish Girl: Studi Analisis Teori Performativitas Judith Butler

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the film The Danish Girl using Judith Butler's theory of gender performativity. The main
focus of this research is to analyze The Danish Girl as a representation of the journey of a transgender individual, Lili
Elbe, in expressing gender identity through the lens of Judith Butler's performativity theory. Through qualitative methods
and approaches, this research highlights how Lili Elbe's complex performative actions reflect the process of forming gender
identity, not only on a personal level but also through involvement in societal interactions and social environments. The
findings of the study reveal that The Danish Girl portrays the gender norms that restrict the liberation of sexuality and
gender identity during that period. It also sheds light on the medical challenges and social conditions faced by transgender
individuals. By linking the analysis to Butler's view that gender is fluid, this research demonstrates that The Danish
Girl presents an example in understanding the complex dynamics of gender identity within individuals. The findings of
this research affirm that the gender identity transformation of Lili Elbe not only encompasses external performative
actions but also involves efforts to redefine the meaning of gender through complex interactions with society and resistance
against gender norms that limit the liberation of individual gender identity.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis film The Danih Girl dengan menggunakan teori
performativitas gender Judith Butler. Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah menganalisis film The Danish
Girl sebagai representasi perjalanan seorang individu transgender, Lili Elbe, dalam mengekspresikan
identitas gender dengan menggunakan teori preformatif Judith Butler. Melalui metode dan pendekatan
kualitatif, penelitian ini menyoroti bagaimana tindakan performatif Lili Elbe yang secara kompleks
mencerminkan proses pembentukan identitas gendermya, tidak hanya pada sisi personal melainkan
juga keterlibatannya dalam interaksi masyarakat dan lingkungan sosialnya. Hasil penelitian
memperlihatkan bahwa film The Danish Girl menggambarkan norma gender yang membatasi
pembebasan seksualitas dan identitas gender individu pada masa itu. Serta juga menyoroti tantangan
medis dan kondisi sosial yang dihadapi oleh seorang individu transgender. Dengan mengaitkan analisis
terhadap pandangan Butler bahwa gender merupakan sesuatu yang bersifat cair, penelitian ini
memperlihatkan bahwa The Danish Girl menghadirkan salah satu contoh dalam pemahaman dinamika
identitas gender yang kompleks dalam diri individu. Temuan dalam penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa
perubahan identitas gender Lili Elbe tidak hanya mencakup tindakan-tindakan performatif eksternal,
tetapi juga melibatkan upaya untuk meredefinisi makna gender melalui interaksi kompleks dengan
masyarakat dan perlawanan terhadap norma-norma gender yang membatasi pembebasan identitas
gender individu
