THE INFLUENCE OF BREASTFEEDING EDUCATION ON CHANGES IN KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOUR OF INFANT MOTHERS IN TAMBAK WEDI PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER IN SURABAYA

Abstract

Apropriate feeding is very important for the growth and development of infants especially under two years old (Baduta), one way is through breastfeeding. The aims of this study were to identify the general description of infants’ mothers, and to analyze the effect of breastfeeding education on changes in the value of knowledge and behaviour of infants’ mothers. This type of research is quantitative with experimental methods and one group pretest and posttest research design. Sampling was done by purposive sampling with judgment sampling type were 58 lactating mothers. This study used the Mother's knowledge and behaviour pretest and posttest questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the paired sample t-test for the knowledge variable, and the Mann Whitney test for the behaviour variable. The results of the study show that there was a positive and significant effect (p=0.000; p<0.05) of breastfeeding education on changes in the value of knowledge and behaviour of infants’ mothers at the Tambak Wedi Health Center in Surabaya.
