The Relationship Between Mothers' Knowledge and the Appropriate Amount of Complementary Food Given to the Nutritional Status of Toddlers Aged 12-23 Months in Tanjunganom District, Nganjuk Regency, East Java

Background: Nutritional status in toddlers is a crucial indicator for evaluating children’s growth and development. Various factors may influence children’s nutritional health, one of which is mothers’ knowledge regarding the appropriate amount of complementary feeding (MP-ASI), which plays an important role in fulfilling children’s nutritional needs. Objective: To analyze the relationship between maternal knowledge and the accuracy of complementary feeding (MP-ASI) portion provision with the nutritional status of children aged 12–23 months in Tanjunganom District, Nganjuk Regency. Methods: This observational analytic study employed a cross-sectional design involving 110 women as research subjects using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and 2×24-hour food recalls, then analyzed using the NutriSurvey application. Nutritional status assessment was based on weight-for-age (W/A) and length-for-age (L/A) indicators according to WHO standards, while relationship analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank test. Results: No significant relationship was found between maternal knowledge and the appropriateness of complementary feeding with children’s nutritional status (p>0.05). Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between maternal knowledge and the accuracy of complementary feeding practices with children’s nutritional status. However, improving maternal knowledge remains important to support appropriate complementary feeding practices and maintain optimal child nutritional health.
