KEMISKINAN DAN KRISIS SOSIAL KELUARGA DALAM FENOMENA PENGEMIS ANAK:
STUDI KASUS DI SEDATI, SIDOARJO
Abstract
The phenomenon of child beggars who force themselves to be pitied in Sedati District, Sidoarjo, reflects the conditions of structural poverty accompanied by a social crisis within the family. This study uses a qualitative approach with observation methods and in-depth interviews with child beggars, the surrounding community, and village officials. The results of the study show that children actively and forcefully beg, often at the urging of parents or other adults, as a form of economic exploitation. In addition to reflecting family dysfunction, this phenomenon also highlights the ineffectiveness of social assistance programs in changing the lifestyles of poor families as a whole. The community itself shows an ambivalent attitude— giving out of pity, but also feeling disturbed. This study recommends a multi-sectoral and sustainable approach, including family education, law enforcement, and public awareness campaigns as long-term solutions.
