Abstract

Background: The prevalence of anemia in women of childbearing age globally is 29.9% with a national scale of 15.5% for the age group of 15-24 years. The factor that influences the appearance of anemia is food intake. Purpose: This study was conducted to find out the description and analyze the relationship between vitamin C adequacy and the incidence of anemia that occurred in Nutrition female students of Surabaya State University. Methods: This study is an observational analysis and has a cross-sectional design with a stratified random sampling technique. A sample was obtained from 247 nutrition female students. This study used a 3x24-hour Food Record for vitamin C adequacy data and a Chi-Square test for data analysis. Result: The average of vitamin C adequacy in nutrition female students was only 34.4 mg/day with the majority of female students not meeting the needs of vitamin C. The results of the data analysis showed that vitamin C adequacy did not show a significant relationship with the incidence of anemia in nutrition female students at Surabaya State University (p=0.841). Conclusion: The incidence of anemia in female nutrition students is not only influenced by the adequacy of vitamin C, but there are other factors such as the intake of other nutrients and infections.
