Abstract

Background: Postpartum depression is a psychological disorder experienced by mothers after childbirth that can have a negative impact on the mother’s health, her ability to care for her child, and the child’s growth and development. Purpose: This study aims to determine the prevalence of postpartum depression among postpartum mothers at the Putat Jaya Community Health Center in Surabaya. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a sample of 69 postpartum mothers whose infants were 3–12 months old, selected using simple random sampling. Postpartum depression was assessed using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Data analysis was performed using univariate descriptive statistics. Result: The study found that 15 respondents (21.7%) experienced postpartum depression, while 54 respondents (78.3%) did not. These findings indicate that approximately one in five postpartum mothers is at risk of developing postpartum depression. Conclusion: These findings indicate that postpartum depression remains a mental health issue that requires attention through screening and early detection.
