Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and premature death. Teachers are among those at high risk for hypertension, whether due to work-related risk factors, such as stress, or non-work-related risk factors, such as an unhealthy diet. Energy intake levels that do not meet requirements and prolonged stres can contribute to increased blood pressure. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between energy intake levels and stress levels with hypertension status among teachers at the Roudlotun Nasyiin Foundation in Mojokerto. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with purposive sampling involving 66 teachers. Data on energy adequacy levels were obtained through 2×24-hour food recall interviews. Stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) questionnaire, while hypertension status was determined through blood pressure measurements using a digital sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed univariate and bivariate using Spearman’s rho test. Results: 81.8% of teachers had a deficit in energy sufficiency, 54.5% of teachers experienced moderate stress, and 63.6% of teachers had hypertension. Bivariate analysis showed no association between energy sufficiency levels (p=0.338) and stress levels (p=0.593) and hypertension status. Conclusion: Although there was no association between energy adequacy levels or stress levels and hypertension status, the high prevalence of hypertension among teachers highlights the importance of promotive and preventive efforts to prevent hypertension among teachers.
