Pertama, makin lama istri menjadi TKW, makin negatiflah pandangan masyarakat tentangnya.

Abstract
This research deals with gender role exchange between husbands who stay at home and wives who work as housemaids overseas. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research examines three questions. First, how do members of the local community view this kind of gender role exchange? Second, what issues arise from this exchange of gender roles? Third, how do the husbands adapt to the gender role exchange? The study yields several findings. First, the longer the wife is working overseas, the more negatively her neighbors view her. Second, gender role exchange leads to such problems as emotional distress, domestic work overload, and negative social evaluation. Third, the husband adapts to his wifes by doing domestic chores and taking care of family members. The husband copes with these problems by taking a more flexible view of gender roles, giving this best to his children, and pursuing the Javanese ideal of harmony.
