Article Processing Charge (APC) and Author Fee

ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES (APC) & AUTHOR FEES

UNESA Journal of Chemical Education (UJCEd) is an open-access scholarly journal published by Universitas Negeri Surabaya. UJCEd is committed to transparent, fair, and independent editorial and publication practices. The following policy explains all standard fees applicable to authors.

1. Submission and Peer-Review Fees

Manuscript submission: IDR 0 (Free of Charge). Regular editorial screening and double-blind peer review: IDR 0 (Free of Charge). Authors are not charged simply for submitting manuscripts or participating in the standard review process.

2. Article Processing Charges (APC)

The applicable APC is determined according to the authorship categories below. All amounts are charged per accepted article.

Author Category APC per Accepted Article
General authors IDR 550,000
Undergraduate students of the Chemistry Education Study Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, serving as first author IDR 275,000
International collaborative manuscripts involving at least one author affiliated with an institution outside Indonesia Free of Charge
Manuscripts in which all authors are affiliated with institutions outside Indonesia Free of Charge

Where more than one discounted or waived category applies, the full international APC waiver takes precedence. Eligibility is assessed from the authorship and institutional affiliation information supplied during submission.

3. Undergraduate Student APC Reduction

The reduced APC of IDR 275,000 applies when an active undergraduate student enrolled in the Chemistry Education Study Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, is listed as the first author. The reduced rate remains valid when the student co-authors the manuscript with supervisors, lecturers, or other researchers. The Editorial Team may request confirmation of active student status.

4. International Collaboration APC Waiver

To encourage genuine international research collaboration in chemical education, UJCEd grants a full APC waiver when at least one author is affiliated with an institution outside Indonesia, regardless of whether that author is the first, co-, or corresponding author. Manuscripts whose authors are all affiliated with institutions outside Indonesia also qualify for the waiver.

All listed authors must have made genuine and substantial scholarly contributions in accordance with the journal’s authorship and publication ethics requirements. Guest, honorary, or fictitious authorship for the purpose of obtaining a waiver is not permitted. Waiver eligibility does not affect editorial assessment or peer review.

5. What the APC Supports

The APC contributes to editorial administration and manuscript management, similarity screening, copyediting, article layout and production, DOI registration and metadata management, website operation, and open-access dissemination. These services do not create any entitlement to manuscript acceptance.

6. Payment Procedure and Editorial Independence

Authors are required to pay an applicable APC only after the manuscript has completed the regular editorial and peer-review process and has been formally accepted for publication. The Editorial Team will communicate official payment instructions through authorized journal channels. Authors should not transfer money in response to unofficial requests.

Submission fees, APC payments, discounts, and waivers are strictly separate from reviewer recommendations and editorial decisions. Payment does not guarantee acceptance, issuance of a Letter of Acceptance (LoA), publication in a particular issue, or any other editorial outcome. Every manuscript is evaluated on scholarly merit, originality, relevance, peer-review results, and compliance with publication ethics.

7. Open Access and Reader Fees

UJCEd provides immediate access to published articles under its applicable open-access and licensing policies. Reader access and subscription fee: IDR 0 (Free of Charge).

8. Policy Updates

UJCEd may periodically review its publication charges. Any revised fee structure will be published transparently on the official journal website. Authors will be informed of the applicable amount before payment is requested.

Important notice: APC reductions and waivers support equitable publication opportunities and international collaboration but never override scientific and ethical standards.
