Abstract

The spread of Covid-19 has affected the religious activities of the Catholic Church of Saint Paul Juanda. The church abolished the offline mass to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in accordance with governmental and diocesan orders. The church then performed online masses instead of offline masses. The church resumed offline Masses as the spread of Covid-19 declined. Aftermath of this pandemic people are faced with two choices, online Mass and offline Mass. The aim of this study is to find out the rationality of people choosing online and offline masses in the post-pandemic period. This research is a qualitative research with Max Weber's rationality perspective. The results there are four rationalities that influence people in choosing off-line masses. Instrumental rationality is home distance to the church, feeling healthy, protected from Covid-19, being a liturgical servant, and more solemn. The rationality of the value of taking offline masses as the top priority. Rationality is effective because longing comes to the church to receive the hostie in person. Traditional rationality has become a routine since childhood. The results of this study also show that there are three rationalities that influence people in choosing online masses. The instrumental rationality is not getting the quota of the mass offline. Affective rationality because of fear of exposure to Covid-19. Traditional rationalities because follow their parents.
