PERKEMBANGAN RADIO SUARA SURABAYA TAHUN 1983-2019

Abstract

In today's digital era, our lives cannot be separated from mass media activities. Radio as one of
the mass media which is still popular gives a dominant contribution to the social reality of people's lives.
Technological advances encourage radio to develop into a more modern direction by adjusting market
share, as well as a form of survival strategy so that radio does not die. Radio Suara Surabaya is one of
the radios that has been developing the concept of citizen journalism since 1983. The concept of citizen
journalism owned by Radio Suara Surabaya became the company's pioneer. Moving the culture of citizen
journalism into a new instrument that relies on technological advances is an effort made by Radio Suara
Surabaya. This study focuses on the change from conventional radio to multiplatform radio due to
technological advances and its contribution to listeners.
The problems that will be discussed in this research are 1) How was the development of Radio
Suara Surabaya in 1983-2019? 2) What is the survival strategy for Radio Suara Surabaya in 1983-2019?
3) how was the contribution of the voice radio in Surabaya in 1983-2019? The method used by the
researcher is the historical research method with heuristic, criticism, interpretation and historiography
stages.
The results of this study explain that Radio Suara Surabaya is able to adapt to extraordinary
technological advances, as evidenced by Radio Suara Surabaya has 6 platforms on the online site. from
1983 to 2019, these platforms consist of official websites, magazines, social media (facebook & twitter)Suara Surabaya Mobile application and podcasts. This stems from the interactive telephone program in
1994 with the development of cell phones causing Radio Suara Surabaya to become aware of the impact
of technological and telecommunication developments. The various platforms were created to distribute
the latest information while still relying on citizen journalism so that the need for information can be met.
