Abstract

This study aims to discuss the art of saronen in the 'Bunga Aroma' group in community activities in Sumenep Regency, to be precise in Tanjung Village, Saronggi District. One of the traditional arts in Indonesia is the art of saronen music. Saronen music, which is the traditional music of Sumenep Regency, is heard, not only for the people of Sumenep and East Java, but also covering the national realm. Until now, the art of saronen music has survived, even though in modern times its existence is threatened by modern music, but in fact Saronen's music is still popular with the people. Based on the description of the background, the formulation of the problem can be taken, namely: (1) Why is saronen music still in demand by the people in the village of Tanjung, Saronggi District, Sumenep Regency? (2) What are the characteristics and values contained in the culture of saronen music? (3) How is the development of saronen music presentation in community activities in the village of Tanjung, Sumenep District in 1975-2015? This study uses historical research methods. There are four stages of the historical method process, namely the process of finding sources (Heuristics), followed by source criticism. After criticism of existing sources and obtaining the facts, the writer takes the interpretation stage, and the last stage is historiography. The results of this study explain first about the factors that cause saronen music to remain in demand by the Madurese community. Second, regarding the characteristics and values contained in the Saronen music culture which is taken from several dances that are played, from the music, clothing, and make-up. Third, the development of saronen music presentation in community activities in the village of Tanjung, Sumenep District, which will be translated into two periods, namely the initial period of the formation of Saronen music in 1975-1999, and the period of reform in 1999- 2015.
