Abstract

Football is the people's sport most liked by the people of Indonesia. Football is not just a sports game favored by Indonesians but also as a means of struggle for independence. Indonesian football under the auspices of PSSI since 1942 has been unable to carry out activities because it has merged into Tai Iku Kai, a sports organization formed by Japan. Only in 1950 was the PSSI able to congress independently and this congress was also known as the “Incarnatie” congress or the reincarnation congress. The problems examined in this study were (1) Why did the PSSI hold a reincarnation congress in 1950? (2) How did the rebirth of PSSI affect football in Indonesia in 1950-1954? The method used by researchers is the historical research method, which has several stages, namely: Heuristics, Source Criticism, Interpretation, and Historiography. The results of this study explain that the PSSI reincarnation congress is considered to be the beginning of the revival of PSSI after the Japanese occupation and is considered to be the beginning of the rise of Indonesian football after officially becoming independent. After the PSSI congress between 1950-1954 PSSI activities became more organized and professional to develop football at the national and international levels. Keywords: Football, PSSI, PSSI Reincarnation, PSSI Congress
