Abstract

technology has a long history, ranging from traditional to modern fishing gear. Modernization of fishing gear technology in Kedungrejo Village began in the 70s, when andon fishermen (immigrants) entered Kedungrejo Village. The fisherman's life is very simple due to three things, namely: limitations in the field of education, lack of opportunities to master modern technology, and not having sufficient capital to develop their business. This study analyzes the development of fishing gear technology which will be divided into 3, namely the background on the development of fishing gear, the process of developing fishing gear between modern fishermen and traditional fishermen, and finally the impact caused by the modernization of fishing gear. Regarding this discussion, the researcher raised the following problem formulation: 1. What was the background for the development of fishing gear technology for fishing communities in Kedungrejo Village, Muncar District, Banyuwangi Regency before 2001? 2. How is the process of technological development between fishermen using traditional fishing gear and fishermen using modern fishing gear in Kedungrejo Village, Muncar District, Banyuwangi Regency in 2001-2013? 3. What is the impact of competition between traditional fishermen and modern fishermen in Kedungrejo Village, Muncar District, Banyuwangi Regency in 2001-2013 in the social and economicfields?Researchers used primary and secondary sources. Primary sources are obtained from interviews, while secondary sources are obtained from books, journals, theses, and theses through internet access. The results of this study, it can be seen that the modernization in Kedungrejo Village has experienced 2 things, namely modernization in fishing gear and modernization in mindset. Characteristically, the Kedungrejo fishing community has a strong character, has a high sense of family and is hardworking. The Kedungrejo fishing community has various types of fishing gear, some are modern and some are still traditional. Modern fishing gear such as purse seine and gill net. While traditional fishing gear such as, payang, fishing line, bagan, sodo and sero. The development of fishing gear technology turns out to have an impact in the social and economic fields, while an explanation of the impact will be discussed below.
