MINUMAN JAMU TRADISIONAL SEBAGAI KEARIFAN LOKAL MASYARAKAT DI KERAJAAN MAJAPAHIT PADA ABAD KE-14 MASEHI

Abstract

Jamu is traditional drink that has been preserved by the community to this day. Jamu is representation of a local wisdom that develop in this community, because they are believe that traditional drinks can eliminate various disease without causing side effects. Jamu is a proof that the people of ancient Java have recognized traditional medicines as an important component in the health sector. This research will discuss the techniques and processes of making herbal traditional medicine and its use as a traditional health drink in the Majapahit Kingdom in the 14th century AD. The research method used answering these problems are heuristics, criticsm, interpretation, and historiography.. Based on this background, there are 2 problem that can be determined, namely: 1) How was the technique and process of making traditional herbal medicine as a health drink by the people in the Majapahit Kingdom in the 14th century AD? 2) How was the use of herbal medicine as a traditional health drink in the people of the Majapahit Kingdom in the 14th century AD? The result showed that people in the Majapahit Kingdom in 1305-1400 AD were familiar with processing plant into health drink. The processing technique is still simple and utilizes several types of plants, most of them are still used today. The use of herbal medicine is devided into two, namely herbal medicine for therapy and herbal medicine for maintaining health. The culture of drinking herbal medicine continues to develop and be preserved, so that is what makes herbal medicine a representation of the local wisdom of the community from ancient times to the present.
