KONDISI SOSIAL BURUH PABRIK SAMPOERNA DI SURABAYA TAHUN 1998-2000

Abstract

Surabaya is a city with a strategic area in Indonesia, with various industrial sectors. PT Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna
Tbk or what we usually call the Sampoerna Factory is a leading cigarette company or factory in Indonesia located in
the city of Surabaya. The Sampoerna factory has produced several well-known cigarette brands such as kretek cigarette
brands in various industrial sectors. In addition, the existence of the Sampoerna Factory in Surabaya has helped
improve the social conditions of the surrounding community, with the Sampoerna Factory in Surabaya, many Surabaya
people become factory workers for various reasons, with the increase in income earned can also improve the social
conditions of the people, especially those who choose to work as employees and laborers at the Sampoerna Factory.
This study aims to analyze (1) How was the social condition of the workers at the Sampoerna Factory in 1998-2000; (2)
How was the work system at the Sampoerna Factory in 1998-2000; This study uses historical research methods, which
use four stages, including: (1) Heuristics, namely various sources and facts that can be found or searched for which
will be used to support the results of the research written. (2) Source Criticism, which is a step to select or assess the
correct and necessary sources in research. (3) Interpretation, namely analyzing the sources that have been found. (4)
Historiography, namely the writing stage where researchers are expected to provide useful writing. The result of this
research is that the Sampoerna factory is the largest cigarette factory in Indonesia, and Sampoerna is fully responsible
for the incidents of labor demonstrations that have occurred. Sampoerna improves their work system for the welfare of
the workers. With the new work system used by Sampoerna, it can improve the social conditions of the working factory
workers. Sampoern also carries out several activities aimed at helping the surrounding community.
