Abstract

Pencak silat is one of the cultures in Indonesia that has developed since centuries ago which was inherited by ancestors in terms of self-defense. Pencak silat is also used as a way for the struggle of the Indonesian people in the struggle for independence. The Pencak Organisasi (PO) martial arts institution itself is a institution founded by Major General Raden Imam Soedja'i in Lumajang in 1927. The establishment of Pencak Organisasi served as a wing of the Sarekat Islam Party in Lumajang during the national movement against the invaders. Tuban Regency is one of the areas that is used as a destination for the dissemination and development of Pencak Organisasi institution. In this study, the problems studied are What is the background of the establishment of Pencak Organisasi?, What is the general picture of pencak silat in Tuban Regency?, How is the development of Pencak Organisasi in Tuban Regency in 1990-2021?, and What is the impact of the development of Pencak Organisasi on society in Tuban Regency? . The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the history of the founding of Pencak Organisasi and the development of the Pencak Organisasi martial arts institutionin Tuban Regency from 1990 to 2021. This study uses a historical research method consisting of 4 stages, namely heuristics (collection of data/sources), source criticism or verification (testing sources), interpretation or interpretation (analyzing facts), historiography (writing research results). Sources of data in this study came from written and oral sources. Oral sources were obtained from interviews conducted with related parties in this study. Written sources are obtained from books, journals, and other relevant documents. The results showed that Pencak Organisasi was established on August 27, 1927 in Tempeh Village, Lumajang Regency. The founding figure was Major General. Raden Imam Soedja'i who was the chairman of the Sarekat Islam in Lumajang in 1925. The general description of pencak silat in Tuban Regency are currently there are 19 pencak silat schools that are members of IPSI, Tuban Regency. IPSI of Tuban Regency itself was initiated in 1990 with the agreement of several pencak silat institution in Tuban Regency, one of which is Pencak Organisasi. The Tuban branch of Pencak Organisasi was first established in Tuban Regency in 1989 and was inaugurated in 1990. The person who introduced it was Mr. Sukirno, who previously actively developed Pencak Organisasi in Sidoarjo Regency. Since its initial entry until 2021, Pencak Organisasi in Tuban Regency has progressed rapidly by developing in 9 of the 20 sub-districts in Tuban Regency previously only developing in 4 Sub-districts in 1990-2006. The Pencak Organisasi of the Tuban branch has produced many athletes with various achievements at the regional, national and international levels. The development of Pencak Organisasi in this region has had a positive impact on society in terms of sports awareness, achievement, personality and character in attitude and behavior.
