Abstract

In 1997-1998 in Indonesia experienced a monetary crisis that had an impact on industries in Indonesia, one of them was the ATBM ikat woven industry in Kediri City. This industry is one of the home industries that does not yet have a fixed market so that the monetary crisis has an impact on the economy for industry owners. This study aims to determine 1) The development of the ATBM ikat woven industry in Kediri City after the crisis in 1998-2017 ; 2) The economic impact of the existence of the ATBM ikat woven industry in Kediri City after the crisis in 1998-2017. This study uses historical methods which include 1) Heuristics, taken through interviews with each owner of the ATBM ikat woven industry in Kediri City as well as the literature study ; 2) Internal criticism, where the authors criticize the questions and answers from the Interview result, the authors also test the contents of the books and journals that will be used ; 3) Interpretation ; 4) Historiography. The Kediri ATBM Ikat Woven experienced a setback during the 1998 crisis where the main raw material for weaving was imported yarn, so with the increase in the exchange rate of the rupiah against the dollar, which was initially 3.275/US dollar in 1998, it rose to 14.900/US dollar. This creates a dilemma for industry owners in determining prices. In addition, the lack of buyer interest and not having a fixed market has made the ATBM ikat woven industry experience a decrease in production. The development of the Kediri ATBM ikat woven industry is divided into two periods. The first period was 1998-2007 where the ATBM ikat woven industry was able to rise again and be able to open up job opportunities for the surrounding community. While the second period in 2007-2017 where the ATBM ikat woven industry experienced very rapid development. It is proven that in early 2007 the government issued a policy to set ATBM ikat woven fabrics as official uniforms. In addition, the government also takpart in conducting training and holding exhibitions that are considered profitable for ATBM ikat woven craftsmen so that in 2017 a new industry appears.
