Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of the Legi Ponorogo Market, the market management system, and also the influence of the existence of the Ponorogo Legi Market on the lives of the people of Ponorogo Regency in 2002-2019. Based on the analysis of the sources that have been collected, the development of the Ponorogo Legi Market from 2002-2019 has an influence on the economic progress of the people of Ponorogo Regency. Since it first operated in 1837 under the government of Tumenggung Wiryodiningrat when he was the deputy head of the Ponorogo Regent under the name Pasar Mernung, this market has always contributed greatly to the economy of Ponorogo Regency. One of the biggest developments of Pasar Legi Ponorogo occurred in 2002 under the administration of Regent Markum Singodimedjo. The Legi Ponorogo Market experienced a great fire at the end of 2001. After the incident, Regent Markum realized the importance of the Ponorogo Legi Market, the following year, in 2002, a major renovation was carried out on the Ponorogo Legi Market. Before being known as Pasar Legi, this market once existed under the name Pasar Songgo Langit. The name Songgolangit itself is taken from the name of Dewi Songgolangit who is the crown princess of the Kediri Kingdom in one version of the origin story of Reyog Ponorogo. The market is one of the traditional trading centers of the Ponorogo community. Then the name of this market during the reign of the Regent of Ponorogo Ipong Mukhlisoni was returned to its previous name, namely without the name Songgolangit. According to Ipong, after the name Songgolangit became the name of the market, the market experienced two fires. Until now the market is known as the Legi Ponorogo Market.
