Abstract

The Dutch East Indies colonial government in carrying out development aims to increase income from the colonies. In addition, development is also carried out to overcome existing problems. The Pridjetan Reservoir was built because of the conditions in the Pridjetan area. Frequent floods in the Pridjetan area damage infrastructure, such as roads. Then, floods caused residents to experience crop failure due to damage to fields. In addition, the condition of the soil is calcareous, making irrigation in the Pridjetan area carried out as needed. The construction of the Pridjetan Reservoir was considered a fairly good solution by the Dutch East Indies government. Based on this background, several problem formulations are obtained, namely 1). How was the construction of the Pridjetan Reservoir in Lamongan in 1910-1926, 2) What were the benefits of the Pridjetan Reservoir in Lamongan in 1917-1926. The purpose of this research is to find out how the Pridjetan Reservoir was built in 1910-1926 and its benefits in the fields of agricultural irrigation, flood prevention and fish cultivation. This study uses historical research methods which include heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. To be able to get good results in this thesis, the researchers conducted a source search in the form of archives for the construction of reservoirs, magazines and newspapers at that time, books containing the construction of reservoirs and agricultural irrigation, relevant articles, theses and journals. The results of the assessment of this study, succeeded in obtaining the following conclusions. First: The Dutch East Indies government built the Pridjetan Reservoir because it was to dam a tributary of the Bengawan Solo River, namely the Pridjetan River. Reservoirs are built in very wide and narrow valleys. Construction began in 1910 and was successfully approved in 1917 at a cost of f 319,850. This reservoir began operating in early 1918 which is useful for flood control, irrigation and fish farming. The existence of the Pridjetan Reservoir has had a good impact on the population and the government, namely increasing the agricultural output of the population, reducing flooding in the Pridjetan area and increasing the income of the population and the government.
