PERS GEMA KAMPUS UNIVERSITAS NEGERI SURABAYA PERIODE 2018-2022
Abstract
Student press institutions have an important role in the university environment and society in general. The
student press is responsible for conveying information about campus activities, the latest developments, and various
events held at the university. This press was born as a form of student nationalism to voice their aspirations through the
media, both at the faculty and university level. One of the student press institutions in Surabaya is the Surabaya State
University Student Center (GEMA UNESA). The aim of this research is to find out the background to the rebirth of
GEMA as a press media at Surabaya State University, the development and progress of GEMA in maintaining its
existence for the 2018-2022 period. This research uses historical research methods. Researchers collect data related to
GEMA which is divided into two types, namely primary and secondary data sources. Primary data sources were
obtained by direct observation at GEMA UNESA, interviews with three sources, namely Fajar Tri Septiono, Drs. Jack
Parmin, M.Hum and Shinta Ayu Azizah Amanda, then the researcher carried out documentation after the interviews
were completed. Secondary data sources were obtained by collecting archives related to GEMA UNESA such as photos
of activities, tabloids, organizational structures, and so on. To support the results of this research, researchers also use
journal or book articles, previous research and so on. The results of this research indicate that the rebirth of GEMA
was due to the enthusiasm of students to maintain its existence as a social control between students and the campus
bureaucracy. The development of GEMA UNESA has experienced phases of ups and downs from its inception until
2022 which can be seen from the management, activities carried out to the creation and publication of its product.
