RUMAH KOST HAJI OEMAR SAID TJOKROAMINOTO SEBAGAI PUSAT PENDIDIKAN NASIONALISME (1913-1929)

Abstract

This thesis is the result of historical research with the discussion of Tjokroaminoto boarding house as the
center of nationalism education. This research is important because Tjokroaminoto's boarding house is a historical
place where Tjokroaminoto educated a generation of national leaders and the young boarders became influential
figures at the beginning of independence.
This research has the following problem formulations: (1) why did H.O.S. Tjokroaminoto make his boarding
house a center of national education? (2) what was the influence of nationalism education taught by H.O.S.
Tjokroaminoto on politics in Indonesia?
This thesis research uses historical methods, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and
historiography to answer the formulation of the problems studied so that the results show that: 1) Tjokroaminoto, the
leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, was often not at home, making his wife Soeharsikin open a boarding house in
Peneleh 7 alley to help with household needs. This boarding house became a historical place where Tjokroaminoto
educated the nation's next generation of leaders. Through his guidance, the young boarders became influential figures
in the early days of independence, receiving education in nationalism, moral values, and discipline. The house also
served as the "Sarekat Islam Headquarters" and a meeting place for various ideologies. The boarders participated in
Tjokroaminoto's activities and some joined Sarekat Islam to broaden their horizons. 2) Tjokroaminoto sought to create
nationalistic people through education, with the specific aim of instilling love of country and nationality. Tjokroaminoto
influenced Indonesian politics, especially in the struggle of Sarekat Islam and the thoughts of various national figures
such as Soekarno, Kartosuwiryo, Agus Salim, Abdul Muis, Semaun, Natsir, and Hamka, among others.
