Abstract

High unemployment among vocational graduates indicates low work readiness. This study examines the effect of internship experience on work readiness with emotional intelligence as a mediator. The population was 330 twelfth-grade students in Accounting, Digital Business, and Office Management at SMKS Ketintang Surabaya. A sample of 181 students was selected with Slovin formula, proportional stratified random sampling method. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed with SEM-PLS (SmartPLS 4.0). Results show that: (1) internship experience positively and significantly affects work readiness;(2) internship experience positively and significantly affects emotional intelligence; (3) emotional intelligence positively and significantly affects work readiness; and (4) emotional intelligence significantly mediates the relationship between internship experience and work readiness. Internships not only provide technical skills but also develop emotional intelligence, which strengthens students' work readiness.
