Abstract
Premarital sex continues to be seen in Indonesia as a form of deviant behavior and an offense against religious and social mores. Those who have engaged in it run the risk of stigmatization. Using the case-study approach, focusing on four women in their early twenties who have had premarital sex, this qualitative psychological research looks into the factors that enable or inhibit their self-acceptence. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and then interpreted with the narative analysis technique. This research reveals differences in self-acceptance between those who view premarital sex as normal part of their lifestyles and those who place a high premium on virginity. The former not only show greater self-acceptance than the latter but they also continue to have premarital sex. The latter, by contrast, find their self-acceptance eroded by a sense of guilt.
