Abstract
Although dating violence causes physical and psychological damage to women victims, there are abused teenage girls who choose to stay in their violent relationships. Some of them even marry their abusive boyfriends. Designed as a qualitative case study, and focusing on two teenage women subjects, this psychological research examines the reasons for such a puzzling decision. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and interpreted through narrative analysis. This investigation discovers the six reasons why the two subjects stay in their abusive relationships: 1) they feel they have already gone too far in loving their violent boyfriends; 2) they have had premarital sex with their partners; 3) they hope their boyfriends will marry them; 4) they hope their partners will change for the better; 5) they have a lower economic status than their boyfriends; and 6) they seem to be low in self-esteem.
Keywords: dating violence, teenage women, psychological dynamics.
