Abstrak
Penyandang HIV/AIDS kerap mengalami stigmatisasi masyarakat.
Abstract
People with HIV are often stigmatized. They are seen as spreaders of a deadly disease and practitioners of socially reprehensible lifestyles. Using the case-study approach, this qualitative psychological research examines the self-acceptance of women with HIV/AIDS, seeking to identify those factors that facilitate and impede its development. Interviews were conducted with four HIV-positive women as research participants. A thematic analysis of the interview data revealed that these women were discrimination against and stigmatization. As a result, they suffered from anxiety, were burdened by guilt, and felt worthless. They finally succeeded in achieving self-acceptance through various processes, which were enabled by support from family and society and which were hindered by economic troubles and poor education.
Keywords: self-acceptence, women, HIV/AIDS.
