Sejak wabah Covid-19 berkecamuk di Indonesia, untuk mencegah penyebaran wabah, pemerintah mendorong masyarakat untuk bekerja dan belajar secara daring. Dengan menerapkan metode kualitatif, penelitian psikologi ini berupaya mengidentifikasi dan memahami coping strategy di antara para perempuan karir yang berperan ganda selaku “guru pendamping” dalam rangka work from home. Data dikumpulkan dengan wawancara semi-terstruktur atas tiga perempuan karir yang ber-WFH dan menjadi pendamping belajar bagi anak mereka. Analisis atas data tersebut menyingkapkan bahwa para perempuan ini menghadapi sejumlah problem, yaitu 1) tiadanya pengalaman mengajar, 2) konflik antara jadwal kerja kantor dan jadwal sekolah daring anak, 3) kesulitan anak berkonsentrasi ketika belajar daring, dan 4) rendahnya motivasi belajar anak. Ditemukan pula bahwa untuk menyiasati masalah-masalah tersebut, para perempuan ini menerapkan dua strategi coping:  1) problem-focused coping dan 2) emotion-focused coping. Strategi pertama dilakukan dengan membagi waktu, mengorbankan salah satu tugas, memperoleh bantuan orang lain, dan membaca moods anak. Adapun strategi kedua dikerjakan dengan berbagi perasaan dengan orang-orang dekat.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, to curb the viral infection, the government of Indonesia has encouraged people to work and study on a remote basis. Using the qualitative approach, this psychological research aims to identify and understand the coping strategies among career women who double as “learning facilitators” for their children under work-from-home arrangements. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with three career women who juggle working from home and helping their children learn online. Data analysis reveals that the women were faced with several problems: 1) lack of teaching experience, 2) conflict of schedule between their own work from home and their children’s online schooling, 3) the children’s difficulty concentrating, and 4) children’s low motivation to learn. In response to such challenges, the women used two types of coping: 1) problem-focused and 2) emotion-focused. In applying the former strategy, they used budgeting, sacrificed one of the competing tasks, sought help from others, and read their children’s moods. In pursuing the latter strategy, they shared their feelings with relatives and friends.
