Abstract
This study aims to explore the dynamics of self-acceptance in mothers who have two children with special needs. Self-acceptance is a crucial psychological aspect that influences a mother’s readiness to fulfill her caregiving role, especially when faced with emotional and social pressures related to her child’s condition. This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, involving four mothers in Surabaya who have children diagnosed with Special Needs. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that the process of self-acceptance is gradual and non-linear, beginning with negative emotions such as sadness, anger, and confusion, which later develop into acceptance, reflection, and gratitude. Spiritual values, social support, and adaptive parenting strategies contribute significantly to the mothers' psychological resilience. This research contributes to the psychological understanding of families with children with special needs and serves as a reference for designing more empathetic and contextual psychosocial support and interventions.
